Update The Copyright Date On Your Web Pages

January 8, 2019 By Green Shoots

Do Not Forget To Update The Copyright Date On Your Web Pages

Happy New Year – we hope you had a wonderful Christmas and hope you have a wonderful and prosperous New Year. The start of a new year is a good time to think about changes and updates to your website – one of those changes should be to update the copyright date on your web pages – or add one if it does not have one!

We believe that adding a copyright date to your web pages is a good idea.

Whilst you own the copyright of anything on your web pages as soon as it is published provided they are your own original works, having a copyright date on your web page maybe a deterrent to many who are thinking about copying your work and passing it of as their own – maybe!

Content theft is common on the internet, having a copyright date on your web page may make someone think twice about copying and using your content.

Having a copyright date, may not deter everyone from copying your content, but having one will most probably help build ‘trust’ and a professional image for your web page.

Having an up to date copyright date on your web page shows visitors that the information on it is up to date, it shows that you are keeping your web page up to date, that you are still trading and that you ‘care’ about your web pages and that your web pages are being maintained.

The copyright date does not have to be a single year – if the content is updated on a regular basis it could be a range of years  – ©2016 – 2019.

Usually copyright dates are embedded in to the footer section of web pages – right at the bottom of the web page.

To insert the Copyright symbol (©) on a windows computer hold the Alt key down and type 0169.

Copyright law will vary in different countries around the world, so this post does not purport to be legal advise in your particular country, where ever you made be reading it from! For example in some countries the copyright date shown should be the date in which the content was originally published, if you update that date to a later date, it might be construed as fraud. Seek proper legal advise if copyright matters are very important for your particular business.
